I was trying to take my vegan boyfriend somewhere to get soondubu, but it was packed so we pivoted to Hangawi. Delicious and traditional plant based Korean food in NYC. Really sexy wooden interior and shoes off which I love. We did the tasting menu(the highlight was a truffle and cremini pate on a big seasoned potato chip) and I got very fresh asian pear juice listed as “Asian pear fantasy” on the menu. We’re hesitant with vegan restaurants bc they usually try to do the “I can’t believe it’s not steak” gag which I hate(especially as a voracious carnivore), but Hangawi really loves tofu and veggies and honors them for what they are. Will be back!
