Missing Earring Sign

A very Upper East Side sign I saw yesterday. I have never lived in a neighborhood with a cash reward for a lost earring. I hope they find it and share the backstory because I’d love to know why it is so special ! Special enough to print color posters and tape them all over the neighborood.
